Pastor Edwin's Story
Pastor Edwin "Dale" Parrish, 80, of Metz, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Ruby Memorial Hospital on Monday (Aug. 14, 2017).
Dale was born around the Seven Pines area on Nov. 7, 1936, to the late Charles Kenneth and Audra Mae (Batson) Parrish.
Dale was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Jacqueline (Brown) Parrish, and his oldest son, Randy Dale Parrish.
He is survived by his three children and their significant others, Sheryl Parrish Snodgrass (Jim), Roger Parrish (Patty) and Heather Snodgrass (Jason Rhodes), and one daughter-in-law, Donna Parrish. He had nine grandchildren, Jennifer Parrish (Zane McCoy), Ray Parrish (Erica), Carisha Parrish Prunty (Willie), Rebekah Snodgrass Brown (Christopher), Alan Parrish (Valeisha Hendershot), Aidan Snodgrass, Shay Snodgrass, Moriah Snodgrass and Maleki Snodgrass, and one step-grandson, Scott Hofer.
Also surviving is one great-grandson, Zeddicus Dale Parrish, and two step-great-grandchildren, Janie and Brody Prunty. Dale is survived by five of his own siblings and five of his wife's siblings and their spouses, Kenneth and Pat Parrish, Betty and Jim Dulaney, Judy Parrish, Dan and Faith Parrish, Joe Parrish, Joan Dominique, Jeanette Barnard, John and Sandy Brown, Judy and Ralph Bates, and Jim and Jan Brown. There are also more nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, relatives and church family than is possible to list.
Dale was an amazing man who touched the lives of so many he knew. More than one family member has described him as their "super hero."
He grew up in the Mannington area and lived his early adult years living and working in that area, as well as Akron, Cleveland and Kent, Ohio. Dale retired from General Tire in Akron, Ohio, in 1979, and he and his family moved back to the Metz area where he made his home until his death.
Dale loved to hunt, garden, complete woodworking projects and just be outside. His favorite activity was spending time with his family. He had a great love for God and the Seven Pines Church, where he served as pastor for nearly 20 years, and his knowledge of the Bible was astounding.
Dale's family will celebrate his life Saturday at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington. Visitation will be from noon-3 p.m. with the memorial service immediately following. Private interment will occur at a later date at the convenience of his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Brown-Parrish Cemetery Fund with checks made payable to Sheryl Snodgrass and mailed to 37 Parrish Lane, Metz, WV 26585 with Brown-Parrish Cemetery Fund on the memo line.
