Nick A. Tipi Sr., 91, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday (Feb. 9, 2017) in his residence.
He was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Fairmont, a son of the late Michael and Rosa Piganelli Tipi.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Delphia M. Swick Tipi.
Nick was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. Nick was a veteran with the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
After the service, Nick owned and operated his family-run business, People's Shoe Shop, in downtown Fairmont for 65 years. He was a member of the Fairmont Moose Lodge and the V.F.W. Post 7048.
Nick was an avid Mountaineer, Pirate and Steeler fan. He loved good Italian food and music. He enjoyed telling stories of his years in the Army, but most of all, Nick loved his family. He was young at heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Nick A. Tipi Jr. and his wife Rose Mary of Fairmont, and Thomas C. Tipi and his fiancée Beth Halterman of Fairmont; a granddaughter, Angela Tipi; two grandsons, Sammy Matos and his wife Felicity, and Michael Garrett Tipi; a niece, Dina Graziani Taylor; two nephews, Mark Graziani and his wife Lisa, and Dana Graziani and his wife Mandi; as well as several great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Glenn Tipi in 2015; his brother, John Michael Tipi; and his sister, Mary Frances Tipi-Graziani.
Friends and family may call from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont. A vigil service will be held in the funeral home Sunday evening with Sister Stella Cronauer, CSJ officiating. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Sister Stella Cronauer, CSJ officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Zion Cemetery, Fairmont. Military funeral honors will be held at graveside by the Marion Country Veterans Council.
