Neva's Story

Text size

Neva Ruth Walker, 92, of Jakes Run, graduated to Glory on Tuesday morning (June 27, 2017).
She was born in Core, Aug. 14, 1924, to parents Ollie Bruce Walker and Mildred Henderson Walker.
She was a graduate of Clay-Battelle High School, Class of 1943. Soon after graduation, she joined her sister Ruby to work at her Uncle Sam Henderson's grocery store in Osage. She retired from Westinghouse/North American Philips with 40 years of service in order to babysit her great-nephews, Andy and Daniel.
"Noggie" was an aunt extraordinaire. She was the life of every party and lit up every room she entered. Noggie was a great storyteller and the keeper of the Walker and Henderson family histories. Her love for the Lord and her church was great. Noggie was a faithful member of the Jakes Run Assembly of God her entire life.
She loved holidays and celebrations. She was a master gardener and canner. Noggie was the driver to every vacation and family outing. She enjoyed many vacations to Ocean City, New Jersey, and Willow Valley Resort in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Noggie's life was dedicated to her family. Her care for her parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles and sisters was admirable.
She is survived by her sister and soulmate, Ruby Gail Walker of Jakes Run, and her "sister," Mary Catherine Walker also of Jakes Run; one brother, Robert Paul Walker and his wife Minnie of Jakes Run. She is also survived by her kids; her nieces and nephew, Nancy Ellen Facemire and husband Jeff of Fairmont, Joyce Ann Bennett and husband Rob of Jakes Run, and David Paul Walker and his wife Tracy of Fairmont. She is also survived by four great-nephews, Andrew Christopher Facemire and wife Carolyn of Apex, North Carolina, Daniel Jeffrey Facemire of Boulder, Colorado, Justin Robert Bennett of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Jack David Walker of Fairmont; three great-nieces, Emily Laurann Bennett of Jakes Run and Grace and Lucy Walker of Fairmont; two great-great-nieces, Lena Rose and Airlie Ann Facemire of Apex, North Carolina; one uncle, Alden "Bill" Henderson of Naperville, Illinois; and many special friends, including Pete and Debbie Snodgrass and family of Daybrook and Howard and Dee Eddy of Core and Velvelene "Diddy" Pack of Cassville.
Our loss is truly heaven's gain.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at the Jakes Run Assembly of God. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with Pastor Rob Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Luke Cemetery at Mooresville.
