Nancy's Story

Text size

Nancy was born in Fairmont on Dec. 13, 1946. She was the second child to Charles "Chud" Dollison and Dorothy "Dottie" Dollison.
Nancy was preceded in death by both of her parents; her brother, Dr. James "Pete" Dollison (Judi Dollison); nephew, David William Dollison; and longtime love, Anthony Alvaro.
She attended Stuart Hall School in Staunton, Virginia, and graduated from Fairmont Senior High School.
Nancy married John D. Gorman II in 1966 and later divorced. They had one child, Anne Wells Gorman-Jacobs, together. Nancy had another daughter, Cindi Marie Howard, who was one of her best friends.
She went on to earn a degree from Fairmont State College and then received her master's degree in library science from Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee. After graduation she relocated to Farmington, New Mexico, where she worked in the city's public library.
Nancy loved the Southwest and eventually made her home in Denver, Colorado. She worked as a reference librarian at Regis University before retiring in 1999.
Nancy left behind her two daughters, Anne Gorman-Jacobs (Robert L. Jacobs) from Denver, Colorado and Cindi Howard (Frank Pilgrim) from Auburndale, Florida; six grandchildren, Zachary Gorman, Sarah Flaming (Vincent Flournoy), Max Jacobs, Anna Jacobs from Denver, Colorado and Zach and Lauren Opitz from Auburndale, Florida; and two great-grandchildren; Aiden Gorman and Lively Flournoy of Denver, Colorado.
She was a loving member of the Alvaro family and thought of Tony and Rose Alvaro as her second family along with their family members. Nancy had many children who called her mom, including Jodi Kosik Henderson of Fairmont.
She was known to never meet a stranger and preached that we were never to judge. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Nancy loved to play cards, travel, fish, hunt and talk with her close friends Susan Moore Anderson (Alan Anderson) from Parker, Colorado, and Blake Boggess from Fairmont. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Fairmont.
Whenever we remember you our hearts are warm.
