Melvin Lee Ringer, of Hagerstown, Maryland, formerly of Hutchinson, ascended into heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 25, 2016. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
Melvin was born on Nov. 17, 1944, to the late Elmer and Freda Ringer, and raised in Terra Alta. Immediately after high school, he joined the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
Melvin worked for American General Life Insurance Co. (formerly Equitable Life Insurance Co.) until he retired in 2009. Melvin was an avid hunter. He especially enjoyed deer season, hunting on his property with his brother, Robert.
Melvin's faith and calling from God led him into prison ministry, where he traveled to various prisons to preach and minister to inmates. Numerous lives were saved because of his ministry, preaching and praying for many lost souls.
Melvin is survived by his loving children, Terry Ringer (Trish) and Teresa Ringer Shumate (David); his brother, Pastor Robert Ringer (Carolyn); his granddaughters, Jessica Ringer Keough (Johnny), Courtney Shumate Norris (Pat) and Brittney Shumate Nasir (Adi); and his grandson, Joshua Shumate. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Lucy, Ziva and Millie Keough and Ariana Shumate.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Bonnie Ringer Parrish Sands.
A private ceremony and celebration of life was held by the family.
Terry and Teresa would like to thank both the Clarksburg and Martinsburg VA hospitals for their medical care; the staff and residents of Broadmore Senior Living in Hagerstown, Maryland, for their love, care and friendships; and the staff of Hospice of Washington County Maryland for their comfort, love and expertise of Melvin's end-of-life care.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation on Melvin's behalf to Hospice of Washington County Maryland.
