Mary Jo Hayes Arnett, 87, of Fairmont, passed from this life in her home under hospice care Friday (Aug. 18, 2017).
She was born in Mannington on Jan. 1, 1930, a daughter of the late James Nicholas and Mary C. Hostutler Hayes.
She was Methodist by faith. She had worked as a sales clerk at both Hartley's Department Store, where she was also a buyer and truly loved going every day, and Hess's Department store for many years. She was a 1947 graduate of Mannington High School.
She enjoyed playing bingo, crossword and word puzzles, reading, playing cards and watching movies.
Mrs. Arnett is survived by her four children, Alan (Terri) Arnett of Pinellas Park, Florida, Donna M. (William) Toothman of Lady Lake, Florida, Shelly Jo Riffle of Fairmont and Jill M. (Jay) Morris of Belpre, Ohio; one sister and brother-in-law, Jeanie (James) Murtaugh of Arcadia, Florida; one sister-in-law, Lelia Hayes of Mannington; eight grandchildren, Phil (Mandy) Toothman, Whitney Toothman, Amy Jo Cochran, Joy Marlie Riffle, Art Arnett, Kelly Arnett, Cody Morris and Riley Morris; two great-grandchildren, Sam Cochran and Dreama Cochran; also several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parent,s she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Vernon B. "Pete" Arnett on Feb. 15, 1993; her brothers, Johnny Hayes and James (Jimmy) Hayes; four sisters, Edith Pacilio, Ethel Metheny, Dolly McCullough and Helen Welch; and one grandson, Brett Morris.
In honoring Mary Jo's wishes, her body will be cremated. Her family will have a private memorial service for her at a later date.
