Martha Malone
Martha Lee (Ward) Malone, 95, of Fairmont left this world on Thursday (Aug. 3, 2017) at her home.
Mrs. Malone was born in a red brick house in Smithtown on Jan. 30, 1922, a daughter of the late James Dressel Ward and Eve (Morrison) Ward.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Francis Malone, in August 2008. The couple were married 69 years. When Martha married Kenneth, they traveled up Route 73 to Fairmont. Now she is traveling back to Smithtown to join Kenneth forever together.
Martha was a homemaker and mother. She attended the Pisgah United Methodist Church and was a member of the Gateway United Methodist Church. In addition, she worked at Grants and Stone and Thomas for 25 years at the Middletown Mall. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara J. Satterfield and her husband Donald of Fairmont, and Sharyn Coffman and her husband Robert of Fairmont; her grandchildren, Dawn M. Satterfield and her companion Kevin Hall, Eric R. Satterfield and his wife Summer, Brian Coffman and his companion Tera, Christine Ricer and her husband Jeff, and Cyndi Coffman and her companion Larry, all of Fairmont; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by one sister, Frances Warman; and several nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by three sisters, Maxine Rogers, Dora "Sammy" Miller, and Flora "Babe" Hawvermale; her brother, James "June" Dressel Word, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Smith and Thelma Drake; and several aunts;uncles; and cousins.
Mrs. Malone's Family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at the Pisgah Cemetery on Smithtown Road in Monongalia County.
