Mark Arthur Carling, 57, passed away Sunday (July 24, 2016) at his home in Fairview.
Born Mark Arthur Skotniski on Nov, 5, 1958, in Key West, Florida, to the late Bernard Skotniski and Patricia Barnett (Carling), he spent his childhood years as a Navy brat, moving from Florida to California as his father's career dictated.
Mark chose to stay close to his roots and became a skilled marine machinist and mechanic. He worked in various shipyards throughout the country and was extremely proud to be involved in the maintenance of the U.S. Navy's surface ship fleet. A true patriot, Mark often impressed friends and family with his encyclopedic knowledge of our nation's military and naval forces. He was also a great story teller, frequently entertaining friends and family with recollections of his crazy adventures while living overseas in Europe and Japan.
Mark believed his most important work in life was as a loving father to his sons, Alexander Elliott Carling, 18, and Andrew Morgan Carling, 16. They were a great source of pride and joy for him, and he considered fatherhood a blessing. His boys loved him very much and will miss him dearly.
Mark is survived by his sons, Alexander Carling and Andrew Carling; his sister, Jane Young; his younger brother, Charlie Skotniski; cousin and close friend, Susie Vega; dearest friend and confidant, Patty Menefee; and his mother, Patricia.
Mark was a Latter Day Saint by faith and there will be a memorial service at 5 p.m. Sunday in his honor at the LDS Church in Farmington.
