Marion Lee Merchant, daughter of the late Catherine and Rush Merchant, passed away on July 3, 2017, in Fairmont.
Marion, a longtime resident of Fairmont, attended Dunbar School. For many years, she attended Morningstar Baptist Church, where she accepted the Lord during her childhood.
She later worked at Good's Drugstore in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she was known for her outgoing personality and love for people. Marion was also a writer and penned two books, "Dedicated to My Black Brothers and Sister" and "I Went Looking for You." Many will remember her for her kind heart, great cooking and a love for working in her yard.
She was preceded in death by her wonderful son, Christopher Edward Dorsey III; her parents, Catherine and Rush Merchant; sisters, Evelyn Glass, Hazel Nungaray; brothers, Rush Merchant, Ed Merchant, Edgar Merchant, Vernon Merchant, Clifford Merchant, Barry Merchant and Reverend Ben Merchant.
Marion leaves to mourn her loss four sisters, Lois Lee Snipes, Reverend Evy Johnson, Ethel Johnson (Richard), all of Chicago, Illinois, and Reverend Barbara Dudley (Warren) of Newport News, Virginia; three special sisters-in-law, Suzanne Merchant, Willa Mae Merchant, Josephine Merchant; a host of nieces and nephews; one special nephew, Huey "Sonnie" Glass II; and a wonderful cousin, Pauline Merchant Williams, all whom she loved dearly.
The viewing will be at 11 .m. and the funeral will take place at noon, both on Friday, at Morningstar Baptist Church on 100 McKinney St. in Fairmont. Reverend Wesley Dobbs will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
