Marcelyn Jo Hardway, of West Newton, Pennsylvania, died Thursday (Jan. 26, 2017) after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born Sept. 3, 1934, to Esther Lucille (Gibson) and Benjamin Marcellus Swisher in Fairmont.
After a brief career in banking, Jo (as she has been called all her life) became a devoted full-time homemaker and follower of Jesus. Before her declining health in the past few years, she was known for her pie-baking skills.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 59 years, Ernest Paul Hardway; a son, Mark and his wife Annie, of York, Pennsylvania; a son, Robert of West Newton; two grandchildren, Jason Hardway and his wife Jessica, of Dallastown, Pennsylvania, and Joanna Kassab of York; and two great-grandchildren Camille and Ezra Hardway.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ruby Lee Saurborn of Fairmont.
The family has decided there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make donations to cancer research.
