Katy's Story

Katy Eva Straight, 91, went with the angels on Saturday (Feb. 4, 2017) surrounded by family in her Barrackville home.
She was born April 4, 1925, in Watson, daughter of the late Salvatore and Teresa Stabane Yaquinto.
Katy was a faithful member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Barrackville, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School in her earlier years and enjoyed her ladies circle group.
She loved baking and cooking for her family and friends. She was a former employee of Westinghouse and Allied Paint. Katy was a member of the National Honor Society.
Katy is survived by a daughter, Paula Parekh and husband Shashi of South Carolina; three grandchildren, Jessica OLeary and husband John of Pennsylvania, Sheila Blum and husband Christopher of New York and Sunil Parekh of Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Katarina, Patrick, Alanna and Abigayle OLeary; one sister, Kathryn Marano of Fairmont; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ginger Straight of Barrackville; and several nieces and nephews.
Katy is also survived by her extended family, Randy Moran and wife Dawn of Barrackville, Ryan, Brooke and Allie Moran and Shawn, Ashley and Macy Bourne; and a dear friend, Jan Harris.
In addition to her parents, Katy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Straight, and a daughter, Jennifer Tennant.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care Katy received by her Amedisys nurses, Courtnie, Randy, Stacy, Brenda, CNA, Karen as well as three special care-givers, Trish, Amanda and Laura, who showed her tremendous care and love in the last two weeks.
Family and friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Baptist Church, 502 Pike St., Barrackville. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Dr. David Cyphers officiating. Interment will follow at Barrackville Cemetery.
