John's Story

John Gilbert Uveges, Jr., 90, of Barrackville, residing at McMurray Hills Manor, in McMurray, Pennsylvania, went to be with our Lord on Saturday (Sept. 24, 2016).
John was born Sept. 1, 1926, at home in Rivesville, a son of late Elizabeth Toth Uveges and John Uveges.
John was a retired business man who owned and operated Johnny's Amoco, Laundromat and used car lot in Bellview for 50 years. He was a member of the Monumental United Methodist Church, a 32nd degree Mason of Acacia Lodge No. 157 in Fairmont and an Osiris Shriner of Wheeling. John once played baseball in the Brooklyn Dodgers farm system and was a lifelong baseball fan.
He is survived by his four children, Janny Reed and her husband Gary, of Fairmont, Nancy Conaway and her husband Doug, of Wentzville, Missouri, Lori Swisher and her husband Michael, of McMurray, Pennsylvania, Butch Smith and wife Tracy, of Green River, Wyoming; six grandchildren, Erich and Jonathan Reed, Dane Robert Smith, Jonna, Kristen and Charlie Swisher; six great-grandchildren, Carter, Mia and Samuel Helbig, Bennett Englert, London Reed and Eveilla Smith.
John is also survived by his brother, Alfred C. Uveges; sister-in-law, DeEtta Hayes; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Betty L (Collins) Uveges; sisters, Irene Konya and Matilde Uveges; and a brother, Zollie John Uveges.

Family and friends will be received from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home 209 Merchant Street. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Stephanie Bennett officiating. John has chosen cremation as his final disposition and interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
