John's Story

John Lee Pheasant, 76, of Morgan Ridge Community of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2016) at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Marion County on Sept. 24, 1940, the only child of the late Edelbert "Dell" Pheasant and Rosa Matilda (Bunner) Pheasant.
John was a graduate of East Fairmont High School in 1957 and graduated from Fairmont State College with a degree in teaching. John began his teaching career at Farmington High School and also taught at East Fairmont High School. He retired from Fairmont State after 34 years of teaching in many fields including civil engineering, building construction, wood working, drafting and instrument building. While at Fairmont State University he served as the advisor for Epsilon Pi Tau. Prior to that, John had worked for Greer Industries as a welder/fabricator. He was a very talented man. He loved to teach and worked as a self- employed contractor building houses. He served on the Valley Falls Public Service Board. He was active member of Marion County Citizens for Better Government.
John was a faithful member of the Mount Nebo Church of Christ, served as treasurer and taught many Bible study classes over the years. His many interests included hunting, fishing, traveling, attending music functions and making instruments for his family.
Friends and family will remember John as a great storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor who loved helping people and loved his family and his many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Vonda Clelland Gump Pheasant; two sons, John "Randy" Randolph Pheasant of Morgan Ridge and Michael Lovell Pheasant and his wife Lisa of Martinsburg; two daughters, Mary Virginia Pheasant of Bunner Ridge and Catherine Rose "Cathy" Pheasant and her husband Scott of Pennsylvania; a daughter-in-law, Roxanna Pheasant of Fairmont; a step-son, Tim Gump and his wife Sherry of Fairview; his very special grandchildren, Meredith Lee Pheasant Linger and her husband Dave, James Ryan Pheasant, Elizabeth Rose Pheasant, Pamela Louise Pheasant, Aubrey Marie Pearson, Selvie Edward Pearson, Hannah Lovell Pearson and Jordie Emmit Pearson; his step-grandchildren, Maleena Coffman and her husband Chad, Segrid Knight and her husband Jared and Katarina Gump; and his great grandchildren, Cade Coffman and Elliena Knight. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Velda Phillips, Charles Phillips, Robert Phillips and Donnie Phillips.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Audrey Louise (Phillips) Pheasant.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Evangelist David Stevens assisted by Evangelist Norman Floyd. Interment will follow at Mount Nebo Cemetery.
