John R. Izzi, age 86, of Canton, Ohio passed away Monday (Nov. 14, 2016).
He was beloved brother, uncle and mentor. Born in Fairmont, June 24, 1930, he was a Canton, Ohio, resident since 1958. He graduated from West Fairmont High School in 1949.
John was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Air Force (1950-1954) and served in Germany. He graduated with a degree in education from Fairmont State College in 1957 and a master's degree from West Virginia University in 1962.
John's 30-plus-year educational career accelerated at Tuslaw School District as its first high school basketball coach, history teacher and principal. In 1974 John was appointed as the first superintendent of the Stark County District and the founding superintendent of the R.G. Drage Career Education Center. John attended St. Michael Catholic Church of Canton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nick Izzi; mother, Antonia D'Allesandro; sister, Rose Izzi; and brother, Andrew Izzi.
John is survived by his dear sister, Mary E. Izzi; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Izzi; and loving nieces, Regina Peacock, Karen Izzi, Sharon Izzi, and their families.
Friends will be received at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, with a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. with Very ReverentRobert Perriello celebrant with Deacon David Lester.

Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Fairmont.
