Jerry Reed Parker, 79, of Bellview, passed away on Thursday (May 11, 2017).
Born May 25, 1937, in Drakesboro, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Clarence Reed Parker and the late Ruby Lee Craig Parker.
The family moved from Drakesboro, Kentucky, to Fairview when Jerry was just a few months old. He was later raised in Grant Town.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Ann Stansberry Parker. He is also survived by daughter, Stephanie Parker Knott of Ashburn, Virginia; son-in-law, Christopher Lee Knott; grandson, Walker Reed Knott; daughter, Michelle Parker Mallen of Rock Hill, South Carolina; son-in-law, Mark Thomas Mallen; son, Douglas Reed Parker of Greensboro, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Christine Konyak Parker; and granddaughter, Hannah Liu Parker. He is further survived by brother, William Lee Parker of Grant Town, along with several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Jerry was a 1955 graduate of Fairview High School and attended Fairmont State College. He served in the 24th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, stationed in Munich, Germany, in 1962-1963. He also served as a sergeant E-5 in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He worked at Ace Auto in downtown Fairmont for 13 years and at Morgan Auto Parts on Morgantown Avenue for another 22 years before retiring in 1999. He was named a Kentucky Colonel in 2014.
Jerry was an avid sports fan, music lover, pet owner and artist. He will be remembered for his kindness and love of family. He always enjoyed conversation, keeping up with old friends and traveling to see his children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Domico Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Preston officiating. The burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens. The Marion County Veterans Council will conduct full military rites at the graveside.
