James Roger Hayes, 73, of Farmington, passed away Wednesday (March 22, 2017) at the Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 19, 1943 in Lumberport, a son of the late Bernard and Mildred (Criss) Hayes.
James was employed by King Knob Coal as a heavy equipment operator for 18 years. He was later employed by Anchor Energy, Patriot Coal and ICG, from which he retired in 2009. He loved to fish, spend time with his grandchildren and work on his farm. He was a loving husband and father and knew how to do everything.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Ann (Hartzell) Hayes, whom he married July 31, 1965; three children, Kelly Mathews and fiancé Earl Huff of Mannington, Krista Hayes and companion Jason Manning of Farmington and James Hayes and wife Jessica of Belington; four grandchildren: Chase Mathews, Alex, Jenna and James L. Hayes; one brother, Gary (Sandy) Hayes of North Carolina; and one sister, Regina (Billie) Williams of Flemington. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Lindy, Harold and Ronald Hayes; and a sister, Lorraine Carrell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ebert and Nell Hartzell; a brother-in-law, Eugene "Bud" Hartzell; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Wester .
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday with Deacon Stanley Carr officiating. Interment will follow at the Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
