Howard Manning Counselman, 88, of Wellsburg, died Wednesday (Feb. 22, 2017) at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1928, in Wellsburg, a son of the late Avery Brown and Audry Mary (Manning) Counselman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jessie Viola Counselman, who passed away on Nov. 5, 2016, and his twin brother, Avery, who passed away at birth.
Howard graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1946 and went on to serve in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Abbot 629. He retired with more than 40 years of service from Mon Power, where he worked as an electrician. Howard was also a lifetime member of the Franklin United Methodist Church.
Howard is survived by two sons, Melvin (Sandi) Counselman of Wellsburg and Marvin (Judy) Counselman of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Billie (Kelly) Wilson, Cristyn (Lamar) Yates, Magen (Zach) Ueltschy and Josh Counselman; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside visitation will be held from noon until time of the service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of the Franklin Cemetery on Washington Pike in Wellsburg, with the Rev. Carl Tribett officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. Arrangements by the Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee.
