Howard David Ailstock, Sr., 78, of Fairmont, our Dad, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on April 18, 2016. He was sitting in our Mom’s Chair watching his beloved Dodgers and with his buddy Smokey by his side.
He was born on March 29, 1938 in Elkins, WV, to Howard Alexander and Nola “Thelma” (Wamsley) Ailstock.
Dad was preceded in death by our mom Erma Jean on November 17, 2014.
He is survived by his three children, Howard David (Teena) Ailstock, Jr., Jerry Ailstock (Jenny Blackwood) and Beverly Ailstock.
Pappaw is survived by his four grandchildren, Monica Ailstock (Bryan Camp), Elizabeth O’Dell, Jarrett and Levi Martin and four great grandchildren.
Dad enjoyed hunting and fishing with all three of his children and grandchildren. Dad most especially enjoyed going hunting to Kentucky with Jerry this past November where he got a monster buck. He had just returned from a fishing trip to Lake Erie with Jerry. He caught a huge walleye and tons of bass.
He was an avid crafter and enjoyed going to craft shows selling his cedar bird houses and bird feeders.
Dad attended Sunrise Chapel and enjoyed spending time with his church family.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Ailstock, Jeanetta Townsend, and Thelma Ware along with several nieces and nephews and his best friend, Bob Stemple who he considered a brother.
In addition to mom and his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Myles O’Dell; a brother and a brother-in-law.
Dad’s wish was to be cremated and his ashes scattered into his favorite honey hole where he did most of his trout fishing.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11am at Sunrise Chapel, 96 Booths Creek Road, with the Rev. John Snyder officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sunrise Chapel, 96 Booths Creek Road, Fairmont, WV 26554
