Goldie Margaret Holbrook, 92, of the Smithtown Community, passed away Sunday (April 9, 2017) at the Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown.
She was born July 23, 1924, in Obetz, Ohio, a daughter of the late Cush Franklin and Stella M. Everett Sherman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene A. Holbrook on March 17, 1986.
Mrs. Holbrook was a Protestant by faith. She belonged to the Wadepark Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She retired from the Woolworth Company in Cleveland, Ohio, with more than 25 years of service as a bookkeeper. Goldie enjoyed bowling in past years, as well as taking long walks when she was able. She enjoyed being in the company of her loving family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Holbrook of Cleveland, Ohio; her daughter, Judy and her husband Warren Francis of Smithtown; and her daughter-in-law, Jodie Holbrook of Kentucky. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Morgan and Kevin and his wife Melissa Morgan; a granddaughter-in-law, Janice Morgan; her great-grandchildren, Hayley Wilburn and Alexa Morgan; a special sister-in-law, Tammy Hamner and her children Dani, Gabi and Devin Hamner; as well as various other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Robert Holbrook and Paul Holbrook; her daughter -in-law, Debbie Holbrook; her grandson, Michael Morgan; her brother, Cush Sherman; sisters, Evelyn Grubba and Rose Miller; and her stepfather, William Garrett.

Friends and family may visit from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Reverend Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Zion Cemetery and Mausoleum.
