Glenda's Story

Glenda Arlene Hardway, 81, of Fairmont, Hopewell Community, died Saturday (Nov. 5, 2016) at Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Marion County on Feb. 8, 1935, a daughter of the late Glenn Carpenter and Laura Swisher Carpenter.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Delbert Hardway.
Glenda graduated from East Fairmont High School where she was a majorette in the East Fairmont High School Band. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Glenda led a very active life. She enjoyed walking and dancing as a member of the Y Squares Square Dance Club. She was an active member of the Marion County Senior Center where she played cards and taught line dancing. In addition, she sang in several area choirs including singing at Pricketts Fort. Her other interests included painting slates, playing cards, board games and collecting antiques, blue glass, buttons, among other things. She was also an avid West Virginia University football and basketball fan. She served as a poll worker for the Marion County elections.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jon Hardway of Ohio; her daughters, Kim Wells-Johnson and her husband Mark, of Fairmont, and Laura Swisher and her husband Billy, of Fairmont; two grandchildren, Daniel Wells and Devany Sachetti and her husband Shay; and a great-grandson, Jacob Wells.
Also surviving are one brother, David Carpenter and his wife Karen, of Fairmont; a brother-in-law, William "Bill" Meighan; nieces and nephews, Billy Meighan, Robert Meighan and his wife Kim, Terry Meighan and his wife Brandi, Tommy Meighan and his wife Marcy, Sarah Carpenter and Davey Carpenter and his wife Michelle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Meighan.
Friends and family may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment services will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
