George Hall, 88, of Chesapeake, passed away Monday (Oct. 24, 2016) at Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
George was born June 18, 1928, in Barrackville, son of the late William and Ollie Mae (Estep) Hall.
George worked as a coalminer in Fourstates Mine No. 20, as well as Mundell Machine Shop and Westinghouse.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War. While in the Army, George was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation of Japan, Korean SVC Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Medical Badge, the Expert Rifle M1 Garand and M1 Carbine. George enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, military history and working on all types of machinery. He loved his grandkids and his wife's cooking.
George is survived by his wife, Geraldine Curio Hall; his son, Gerald "Joe" Hall and his wife Mary of Fairmont; a daughter, Gloria Jean Ainsworth of Morgantown; a brother, Harry C.J. Hall and wife Carolyn of Richwood; and three grandchildren, Melissa Jo Hillberry and husband Jamie of Shinnston, Melanie Jo Gregory and husband EJ of Shinnston and Katie Ainsworth of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by five brothers, Daniel, Charles, Junior, Clyde, Russell and Paul Hall; a sister, Daisey Huey; and a son-in-law, Mark Ainsworth.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Fairmont Regional Medical Center nursing stags on 3A for the great care of Mr. Hall.
The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until noon Thursday at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday in the funeral home with Betty Jones and Kay Lake officiating. Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Marion County Veteran Council.
