George Ivan Gibson, 63, of Fairmont, passed away Friday (May 6, 2016) at his home, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born March 26, 1953, son of the late John and Virginia Gibson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, of 43 years; two children, Scott Gibson and Angie Vandergrift and her husband Jason; three grandchildren, Anthony Gibson, Devin Vandergrift and Tiffany Davis; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Aiden Davis; and three brothers, Jim Gibson and his wife Jolinda of North Carolina, John Gibson and his wife Cindy of Ohio and Joe Gibson of Ohio.
George worked as a coal broker for Continental Coal and Ashland Coal for more than 20 years and Swift Trucking for 10 years. He enjoyed spending time with Shirley sitting on the front porch watching the hummingbirds, camping with Shirley and his close friends, Ray Martin and Janet Stevens, going to football and baseball games with Angie and Jason to watch his grandson Devin play, hunting with Scott, Anthony, Jason and Devin, talking with his brothers, John and Jim, and having coffee with all his friends at Hardee's.
George donated his body for research in an effort to help others battling cancer. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, 302 Boothsville Road, Fairmont. A luncheon will be held by the church directly following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
