Geneva Ann Stevens, 96, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday evening (May 4, 2017) at Fairmont Health and Rehab.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1920, in Rachel (Downs), daughter of the late Felix and Josephine Sokolosky.
In Geneva's earlier years, she had worked at Pollock's Store in Rachel.
She was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church in Barrackville, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She graduated in 1940 from Farmington High School.
In 1980, A. James Manchin awarded her West Virginia Ambassador of Good Will. She loved being a mother and grandmother and was called Aunt "G" by her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Linda Stevens of Wampum, Pennsylvania, and Herbert E. and Monica Stevens of Fairmont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alyssa Stevens of Wampum, Pennsylvania, Tyler and wife Amanda Stevens of Fairmont, and Laura Stevens of Fairmont. Geneva is also survived by nieces, Alice Sherer and daughter Anna Marie of Fairmont and Kathy Sokolosky of Rachel; god-daughter, Marlene Napalo; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Viola Hoit and Vicki Qualter.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George M. Stevens in 1974; one sister, Helen Vasicek; and two brothers, Johnny and Eddie Sokolosky.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the Ross Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon David Lester officiating. Interment will follow at Barrackville Cemetery.
