Flossie's Story

Flossie Haddix, 101, of Fairmont, Levels Community, passed away Saturday (June 18, 2016) surrounded by her family at John Manchin Senior Health Care.
She was born in Nestorville, on May 3, 1915, a daughter of the late Tilden Auvil and Floy (Nestor) Auvil.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Haddix, in May of 1985.
Flossie was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
In addition, she retired from Fairmont General Hospital/Fairmont Regional Medical Center after working for many years as a nurse's aid. She was a member of the Levels United Methodist Church, Cross Roads Senior Citizens and volunteered at the Fairmont Soup Opera. Family and friends will remember Flossie for her love of being outdoors and working in her vegetable and flower gardens.
She is survived by three sons, Fred Haddix and his wife Dianne of Jasper, Georgia, W.M. Max Haddix of Fairmont and Willard P. Haddix and his wife Zella of Short Gap; a daughter, Ruby A. Lockhart of Fairmont; 17 grandchildren, Cindy Smith, Michael Haddix, Jeff Haddix, Timmy Lockhart, Kimberly VanGilder, Lesley Monsein, Kevin Haddix, Edward Rudy, Carolyn Byrne, Cristie Rogers, Cathy Laudrille, Sharon Curry, Steven Rudy, Paul Haddix, Linda Shahan, Robert Haddix and Roger Haddix; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, Emery Auvil of North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Haddix was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Rudy; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Haddix; two sons-in-law, Clarence Lockhart and Cleo Rudy; and three brothers, Emmitt Auvil, Clinton Auvil and Ray Auvil.
Mrs. Haddix's family would like to thank John Manchin Senior Health Care, Hospice Care and a special thank you to Shelly Ashcraft and Kim Quirk, her care-givers, for their loving care during her illness.
Friends and family may call from 1-8 p.m. Monday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Soup Opera.
