Ernest L. Floyd, 91, of Wallace, passed away at the home of a friend.
He was born on April 15, 1925, in Folsom, to the late Erna Linzy and Opal W. Glover Floyd.
Ernest is survived by his children, Cheryal Gray and her husband Jeff of Wallace, Norman Floyd and his wife Sheila of Fairmont, Linda Shorter and her husband Tom of Lumberport, Ruth Harris and her husband Jerry of Lumberport, Bonnie Burton and her husband John of Bridgeport, Lila Ashley and her husband Harold of Lumberport, Donna Burton and her husband Fred of Bridgeport, Sara Owens and her husband Mike of Lumberport and Luke Floyd of Wallace; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; his brother, William "Bill" Floyd and his wife Violet of Wallace; and his sisters, Katherine "Kate" Lowe and her husband Ed of Pine Grove and Alice Dotson Harris of Folsom.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded by his wife, Blondena "Bonnie" Floyd; their infant son, Dennis Kyle Floyd; his brothers, Harvey "Ardell" Floyd, Wesley Floyd and Clark Floyd; and son-in-law, Raymond "Ray" Cunningham.
Ernest served in the Navy on the USS Birmingham during WWII. He was a proud coal miner. Ernest retired from Dola Mine. He was a member of the UMW. Ernest was a member of the Wallace Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing his fiddle, gardening and outside work, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. today at Harmer Funeral Home Inc., Shinnston. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Evangelist Norman Floyd officiating. Interment will follow at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery.
