Darla Rae Summers, 50, of Fairmont passed away on Sunday (July 24, 2016) at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Fairmont on Nov. 28, 1965 a daughter of the late Edwin Dale VanGilder and Betty Jean (Haught) VanGilder.
Darla was currently employed at the FBI Center in Bridgeport as a data entry clerk for 25 years.
She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School in 1984 and attended Fairmont State University. She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. Darla was a devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed traveling with her family. Most of all, she loved watching her daughter, Kayla, play softball. Darla loved animals, especially her dogs, Homer and Grizzly.
Darla is survived by her devoted family. Her loving husband, Scott Summers whom she married on July 21, 1990; her daughter, Kayla Summers and her boyfriend, Corey Ledsome of Fairmont; her sisters and their husbands, Terry and Donald Carpenter of Rivesville and Debora "Debbie" and Daniel Sponaugle of Fairmont; her mother-in-law, Jean Summers of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Vicky Summers-Long of Fairmont; and several special aunts, uncles and cousins.
Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Scott Tingley, Camden Long, Mallory Haddix and her husband Chad, Cody Eckles, Jennifer Ozzbourne and Molly Carpenter; and her great-nieces and nephews, Brooklyn, Gage and Cheyenne.
In addition to her parents, Darla was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Leon VanGilder and Edwin Lyle VanGilder, who died in infancy; a niece, Natalie Ilene Eckles and her father-in-law, Melvyn Wayne Summers.
Friends and family may call from 1-8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Bert Coffman officiating. Interment services will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
