Charles Lee Floyd, 78, of Fairmont, passed from this life Wednesday (March 30, 2017) under Amedysis Hospice after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Grafton on Aug. 15, 1938 a son of the late Samuel Warren and Dolly May Saurborn Floyd.
Charlie was a Christian by faith and had formerly attended the Apostolic Christian Temple and the Boothsville Baptist churches. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked as a laborer with a variety of companies and on farms in the area. He also had his own lawn care business as well as having dug graves for the Evergreen Cemetery.
He was a hard-working outdoorsman who enjoyed collecting aluminum cans and working in his yard. He always enjoyed helping others and was a bit of a jokester. He nearly always had a smile on his face.
Mr. Floyd is survived by four sons, Carl Edward Floyd of Fairmont, Gerald Lee and wife Brandy Floyd of Fairmont, Charles Lee Floyd II and wife Diana of Linden, Virginia, and Samuel Newton and wife Kim Floyd of Pine Grove; three brothers, Marshal (Rose) Floyd of California, Joseph Floyd of North Carolina and Earl (Sharon) Floyd of Fairmont; four sisters, Alecia Ellen (Keith) Hurst of Mount Claire, Brenda "Dot" Leighty of Pruntytown, Karen Jo Ann Wynek of Wheeling and Agnes Geraldine Douglas of Sutton; also eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Tensie Gay Patrick Floyd, in 1974; his daughter, Martha Ann Floyd; sister-in-law Alma Floyd and brother-in-law, John Leighty.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St. Services will be in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Sunday. Interment will follow at the Middleville cemetery.
