Betty Jane Wilson, 71, of Richmond, passed away on Friday (Jan. 13, 2017) at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born in Fairmont, on June 22, 1945, to the late Phillip B. and Goldie May Critchfield Wilson.
She served her country as a health services management support supervisor in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years and achieved the rank of master sergeant before her retirement in 1993.
She was deployed during the Gulf War, Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm and received numerous honors including: the Air Force commendation medal with two bronze oak leaf clusters; the Air Force good conduct medal with one silver oak leaf cluster; as well as the National Defense Service Medal with one bronze service star; the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze service stars; and the Air Force longevity service award ribbon with four bronze oak leaf clusters.
Miss Wilson is survived by her sisters, Rosetta Ethel Wilson, Brenda Alice Wright and Katherine Eleanor Arnold; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Deloris Jean Wilson, and a nephew, Steven Pocius.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main Street, Richmond. Burial will follow at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors.
