Barbara's Story

Text size

Barbara "Penny" Pratt of Monongah, was called home on April 6, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and the best friend you could ask for. She was unforgettable and if you had the pleasure of meeting her, you knew why. She never knew a stranger, always willing to help any one that was in need. Everyone that crossed her path always got a hug! She lived her life by the motto “That’s why God put us here, to help each other. We are all his angels.”

God blessed her with the gift of laughter, from her unique hats to her endless slew of one-liners and jokes. She made you laugh and if you didn't, she would give you that sideways stare until you did.

She was Baptist by faith, and so loved her Lord and Savior. She retired from the Fairmont Clinic where she worked in the pharmacy for most of the 22 years she was there. She lived life to the fullest, bowled on several leagues for many years, loved playing cards with her mom and loved to line dance.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Pratt; her mother and father, Virginia and Bud Locke; and one sister, Betty Barthalow.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Pratt; and granddaughter, Shyanne Pratt. She had three sisters and twin brothers, Dorothy Haught and husband Robert of Katy, Margret Schumann and husband Thomas of Florida, Patricia Locke of Rivesville; brothers, Darrell Locke and wife Ann of Morgantown; David Locke and wife Mary of Kentucky.

Pen-Pen had a very large extended family. Her brother and sisters in the pharmacy, Nick, Mindy, Debbie and Crystal always held a special place in her heart. Her neighbors, Kelly Rutherford, Terry and Sharon, Freddy, Mrs. Doris Kubiet, and Frank among others, were a great blessing to Penny.

Please Join the family in honoring the life of "Penny", in accordance with her wishes, at the Barrackville Community Building on Saturday, April 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. with a memorial service to follow officiated by Mark Double. Domico Funeral Home in Fairmont is in charge of her arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
