Amos's Story

Amos Barnette "Bud" Sharps, 101, died Saturday (June 25, 2016) at Oakland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oakland.
Born Feb. 11, 1915, in Harrison County, he was the son of the late Amos Battey and Julia (Barnette) Sharps.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Excella Sharps; a daughter, Julia Avis Ryker; a son-in-law, John Ryker; and three sisters.
Amos was a school teacher, teaching throughout Maryland and West Virginia. He was a U.S. Army veteran and past president of the Elkton Lions Club in Elkton, Maryland. Amos volunteered with 4-H and the Boy Scouts of America and worked as a carpenter.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Melva Hess of Fairmont; three nieces; and a nephew.
Friends were received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, on Tuesday. Services were conducted in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Maryland.
