Wanda's Story

Wanda Doris (Baker) Rakocky, 100, of Benton's Ferry, passed away Monday (Jan. 23, 2017).
She was born in Alvy, Tyler County, on July 24, 1916, to the late Mahlon and Mary (Wharton) Baker.
Wanda was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Fairmont.
Survivors include her sons, John Rakosky and wife Crystal of Benton's Ferry and Michael Rakocky and wife Jennifer of Kingmont; her daughter, Kathy Laughlin of Benton's Ferry, with whom Wanda resided.
Also surviving are her grandsons, Jonathan Michael Laughlin, Joshua Joe Laughlin and Jake Matthew Rakosky; her granddaughters, Taylor Rae Rakosky, Lesley Erin Rakocky, and Jennalee Alaine Toothman and husband Andrew; her great-grandchildren, Samantha Michael Laughlin, Mason Allen Toothman and Max Michael Toothman; her only surviving sister, Jesse Alice Glover of Warren, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was also preceded in death by her husband, John Louis Rakocky; her sisters, Wilda Kline and her husband John, Cecil Walters and her husband Leo, Freda "Sis" Dotson and Gertrude Swiger.

Friends and family may call from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Evangelist Andy Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
