Virginia Lee Glendenning, 81, of Fairmont, passed from this life Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Thornton on July 2, 1936 a daughter of the late Lee and Catherine Merriman Minear.
Virginia was Pentecostal by faith. She had worked in the kitchens at Tiffany's Restaurant and the Fairmont Hotel. She was a homemaker and after her children were raised she served as a private caregiver.
She enjoyed her Bible study time, working word puzzles, crochet, watching wrestling and was an true Pittsburgh sports fan including hockey, football and baseball.
Ms. Glendenning is survived by 10 children; Shirley White of Jefferson, Pennsylvania, Mary and Guy Gilbert of Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania, John and Pam Glendenning of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jim and Barb Glendenning of Carmichales, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Cross of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Fred Glendenning of Masontown, Pennsylvania, and Michael and Mallory Glendenning, Brenda and Butch Yeator, Harry and Dee Glendenning and Edward and Esther Glendenning all of Fairmont; one brother Fred (June) Shaffer of Avella, Pennsylvania; one sister Peggy (Danny) Bannovich of Avella, Pennsylvania; 45-plus grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren with another on the way; a former brother-in-law Bill Ward of Kansas; also her caregivers Judy Boyce and Gloria Rogers with Family Services.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years John Glendenning; her companion of 16 years Albert Bailey; two daughters in infancy Wilma and Catherine Glendenning; two brothers Billy Glendenning and Michael Minear; one sister Ruthann Ward and two sons-in-law William Tennant and Robert White.
Virginia's family has requested that memorial donations be made in her name to either St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 (envelopes at funeral home) or The Pentecostal Light House Church, 1501 Pennsylvania Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St. Services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 2 pm with Pastor John Abersold officiating.
