Verta Mae Wright, 72, of Fairmont passed away Friday (Jan. 26, 2018) at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Fairmont on Nov. 22, 1945, a daughter of the late Eb Valentine and Lillian (Bunner) Valentine.
Verta was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She worked briefly at Owens-Illinois Glass and was last employed at Shoney's Restaurant in Fairmont as a waitress. She loved country music and enjoyed scratch-off tickets and playing cards with the family. She loved her dog Elvis whom passed in October 2017. Verta always gave lots of love to her family and friends that special "love tap slap."
She is survived by her loving companion of 40 years, John Keener; two sons, Gary L. Wright and his wife Judy, of Fairmont, and Rick Wright, of Moatsville; and her grandson, Gary Wright Jr., of Fairmont; and a great-nephew, Scotty Valentine, that Verta and John raised; and several nephews, nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces.
Loved by many, she was one special lady. She never met a stranger. Fly high with those angels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Edward Wright; her brothers, Robert Valentine, Billy Valentine and Larry Valentine, and her sister, Edna Valentine Loman.
Verta's family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care during her illness.
In keeping with Verta's wishes, cremation services with no viewing are being provided by the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont.
