Thomas Lester Hartley


Thomas Lester Hartley of Fairmont, WV passed away March 31, 2019. Tom was born January 20, 1947 in Fairmont, the son of the late Lester Woodrow and Lillian Elsie Stanley Hartley.

Tom was a 1965 graduate of East Fairmont High School and an Honor Graduate from Fairmont State College. He was a retired Fairmont City Police Officer of 23 years of service and retired officer from Orange County Sherriff Department, Orlando Fl.

Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years Patricia Sue Powell Hartley who he loved very much. He is also survived by his son Thomas and wife Michelle Hartley of Kingsport, TN, a daughter Tammy Hallberg of Temecula, CA. He is also survived by 2 Grandchildren Kishia D Perkins and Caleb Hartley both of Fairmont, WV along with Great Grand Daughter Kaydee Perkins.

Along with his parents, Tom was proceeded in death by his sister Daisy Lee Shaffer, Son-in-law Frank Hallberg, Brother-in-law Robert Powell Jr and Nephew Robert "Bobby Joe" Powell.

Per his request cremation was completed and grave side service will be held at later date.

Tom was a sweet and dear man I meet him thru my mom they were good friends since childhood. You couldnt ask for someone more special them him he was like a big teddy bear always there with a hug or kind words. He surely will be missed. Tom was one of the best Police Officers I ever worked with. He was respected by his brother officers and the community. He was a good friend too. Patty, Denise and I are so sorry. If ever two crazy people were meant for each other, it was you and Tom. He loved you and the kids dearly.
