Thelma Louise Drake, 91, of Fairmont went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Marion County on Nov. 18, 1925, a daughter of the late Zedoc Haines Malone and Eva Maude (Horner) Malone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert "Whitey" Drake in 1974.
Thelma graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1943. She attended West Virginia Business College. She worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant for 26 years in the service and traffic office, personnel office and the accounting office as an executive assistant. Thelma worked at Fairmont State University in the business office for one year and retired in 1986 as residence director at Prichard Hall at Fairmont State University.
Mrs. Drake was a member of the former Christ United Methodist Church and currently a member of Gateway United Methodist Church. She was a member of Golden Rod Rebecca Lodge #87 of Farmington, O. I. Quarter Century Club, O'Inettes, Eagles Auxiliary, REAC and VFW Post 7048 Social Club.
She was an avid reader. She also enjoyed playing bingo, working and doing crypto-quotes.
Thelma was the proud mother of five daughters and their spouses who survive her, Nancy Louise Stewart (Roger Lee), Peggy Ann Drake, Betty Jean Phillips (Larry), Norma Kay Watson (John Paul) and Lana Gay Libby (Brian).
Also surviving are her grandsons, Douglas Mills, Jeffrey Mills, Roger Lee Stewart II, Shawn Stewart, Lance Stewart, Roger "Bud" Hawkins,II, John Paul Watson Jr, Christopher Watson, Trevor Maxwell, Aaron Maxwell, Zane Libby; four granddaughters, Tina Marie Waldeck, Kimberly Vincent, Caitlin Libby and Stephanie Phillips Dean; great grandchildren, Colby Mills, Tyler Mills, Ajay Mills, Kasey Mills, Kaylee Mills, Mason Mills, Mitchell Mayle, Austin Stewart, Karibee Steele, Chase Steele, Abigail Stewart, Caleb Stewart, Bradley Johnson, Garrett Hawkins, Dillan Hawkins, Seth Vincent, Samantha Otto, Emily Waldeck, Jenna Watson, Camryn Watson, Piper McKenna Watson, David Dean, Lauren Dean and Kayla Dean; and great great grandchildren, Riley Mills, Ryen Mills, Ryan Otto and Evan Otto.
In addition, Mrs. Drake is survived by her sister-in-law, Martha Lee Malone and special friends, Bessie Webb and Melba Lough.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her companion, Whitner Webb, her best friend Betty Wilson, and her great-granddaughter, Taylor Marie Watson.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Edin officiating. Interment will follow at the Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County.
