Susan S. "Sue" Pender of New Braunfels, Texas passed away Monday (May 22, 2017) at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of Franklin A. "Frank" Pender Jr., owner of Star Bulk Trucking in New Braunfels.
Susan (Shutler) was born Nov. 22, 1947, in Fairmont to Donald I. and Elizabeth Jane (Michael) Shutler of Mannington.
She graduated from Mannington High School in 1965 and met her husband while working at Fairmont General Hospital. They were married Nov. 24, 1976, in Logansport. The couple's adventurous spirit took them to stops in Pennsylvania and New York before moving to Texas in 1986. They lived in Richardson, Marble Falls and Midlothian, Texas, before Susan retired from American Eurocopter and the couple settled in New Braunfels. She was a consummate mother and cook. Her favorite pastimes included camping with friends, family gatherings and keeping up with her three children, five grandchildren and lapdog-friend, Izzy. She also had many loving nicknames including "Suzer" and "Bee."
She is survived by her husband, Frank; sons, Michael S. Pender and wife Krista of Fort Worth, Texas, and Franklin A. Pender III and wife, Dusty of Austin, Texas; daughter, Katie Jane Pender of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Adalai Gibson, Shelby Nash, Wesley Nash, Elizabeth Jane "Ellie" Pender and Amelia Elise Pender; sister, Cindy Butler and husband, Jerry of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; brother, Duane Shutler and wife, Cathy, of Mannington; and uncle, Curtis Michael and wife, Betty, of Mannington.
Visitation will be from 5- 8 p.m. Thursday at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
