Stella A. Sobolewski, 91, died Monday (Jan. 1, 2018) in Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1926 in Allison, Pennslyvania, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Mekina Tekieli.
Stella was united in marriage to Stanley Sobolewski on July 17, 1948 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mannington. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2005 after 56 years of marriage. She lost her oldest son, Robert Sobolewski on Nov. 17, 2001.
Stella is survived by three children and their families, Stephanie Sobolewski, Morgantown, Phillip (Kathy) Sobolewski and son, Andy, of Charleston, South Carolina, Annette (Nick Kose) Sobolewski and son, Conner Sobolewski, of Rachel; a sister, Natalie Bush, Morgantown; brother-in-law, Steve (Madeline) Sobolewski, of Rachel; sister-in-law, Patricia Tekieli, Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a lifelong member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mannington and looked forward to her visits from Father Vincy and Elsie Doshen Lake, and the family thanks them for their time and kindness. Prior to her marriage, during the war, she was employed at the Federal Bureau of Investigations under J. Edgar Hoover. She was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress who sewed for Hartley's Department Store, and an artist.
She was also preceded in death by five siblings, Julian, Ed, Stanley and Ted Tekieli and Mildred Kloc.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Hutson Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St., Mannington, where the Rosary will be recited and a vigil service held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Vincy Illickal as celebrant. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Fairmont.
