Stanley E. Williams Stanley "Butler" E. Williams passed away Sunday (June 17, 2018) at UHC following a brief illness. Stanley was born July 23, 1926 in Annmoore to Mollie Wilcox Williams and Ora O Williams. He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Evelyn Hearn Williams, whom he married June 23, 1951. He also leaves behind two children, Randy W Williams Meadland Community, and Renee Talbott and husband Brett of Buckhannon.
He is survived by his grandson, Matthew C. Fox of Morgantown; daughter-in-law JJ Robinson of Clarksburg; step-grandsons Jacob Robinson; and Nikki and Emerson Talbott and Jessica; his sister, Mary Swingle of Westerville, Ohio, plus many nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Stanley.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Philip T. Williams and infant daughter Terry D Williams; and, his siblings, Bernard K Williams, Janis E. Mason and Norman C. Williams.
He was a 1944 graduate of Victory High School.
Stanley served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He felt blessed that he landed in Europe May 8, 1945, the day the war was over. He was a life time member of American Legion Shinnston Post 31 where he was a 50 year continuous member and where he served as adjutant for more than 30 years. He was the past 3rd district adjutant and past vice commander of the West Virginia American Legion He was also a member of the VFW and the Shinnston Loyal Order of the Moose.
Stanley was an avid bowler in his younger years as well a baseball player. He worked for the M and H Zinc plant in Spelter as a millwright for many years before moving to Union Carbide Corporation where he retired from in 1988.
Stanley was an avid gardener and was still doing it at 91 years old. Everyone wanted the secret to his peppers in sauce. He passed that knowledge on to his grandsons, Matthew and Jacob.
Friends and family will be received from 4-8 p.m. today at Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Sherman Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
