Sonya Joy Maddox, 53, of Fairmont, passed away after a courage battle with cancer Saturday (Dec. 3, 2016) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Dec. 25, 1962, in Morgantown, the daughter of Gladys Springs Maddox of Fairmont and the late Leon Maddox, Sr.
She was baptized at an early age and was a past member of the Morning Star Baptist Church where she sang in the junior choir. She was a nurse's aide and was previously employed by Family Services in Fairmont.
Sonya was a blessing to her mother and others in the community by taking them to doctor's appointments, shopping and whatever their needs may be. She also loved to bowl and take care of her grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Leon Jamar Maddox of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Laila Maddox, Sam Maddox and Cameron Maddox all of Morgantown and Dominic Maddox of Fairmont; one sister, Francine (Prince) Moore, Hagerstown, Maryland; three brothers, Leon Maddox, Jr. of Fairmont, George Lee, Logan and Ricardo Maddox of Morgantown; several nieces including Tancia Richardson of Morgantown; several nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister, Senita Richardson.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Morning Star Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Wesley Q. Dobbs, officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
The JG Lampkin Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
