Russell Coleman Shroyer, 66, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday morning (Aug. 24, 2016) at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born in Fairmont, on April 29, 1950, a son of the late Lewis Shroyer Jr. and Mildred (Daughtery) Shroyer.
Russell was a 1969 graduate of East Fairmont High School. He had worked as a service tech for Electric Control Systems for 17 years and for Hillrom Corp. for five years. In addition, he was a certified welder.
Russell was a member of Fairmont Masonic Lodge No. 9, AF & AM, and the Osiris Shrine Temple. He was a former member of Upper Mon Valley Shrine Club Desert Caravan, where he enjoyed riding his three-wheel trike.
He was one of the founders of the Marion County Rescue Squad, where he was known as "The Medicine Man."
In addition, he was a member of the Covenant Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Russell was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed most spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Norman "Skip" Shroyer of Fairmont and Thomas Allen Shroyer of Barrackville.
Russell is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Susan Wright Shroyer; two daughters, Amanda Shroyer and her companion Jeff Radcliff and Ashley "T-Bird" Shroyer and her companion Todd Melton; two brothers, John Shroyer and his wife Linda of White Hall and Richard Shroyer and his wife Julie of Meredith Springs; three sisters-in-law, Ann Shroyer of Fairmont, Debbie Shroyer of Barrackville and Cathy Reed-Vanetta of Fairmont; his wonderful father-in-law, Don Wright of Fairmont; one special uncle, Robert Daughtery and his companion Mary of Florida; his loving pets, Brutus, Molly and Little Girl; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Rex Musgrove officiating. His family will honor his wishes for cremation following the funeral service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Russell Shroyer Go Fund, in care of Susan Shroyer, No. 2 Dusty Trail, Fairmont WV 26554 to assist with funeral expenses.
