Roy Shannon Cayton, 81, of Shinnston, passed away Thursday (Dec. 14, 2017) at the Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 24, 1936, in Salem, a son of the late Ashby Lewis Cayton and Beulah Pratt Cayton.
Roy was a graduate of Doddridge County High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a welder by trade, having retired after many years of service from the Harrison Conveyor Co. in the Clarksburg area. He was a member of the West Farmington United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Jane Haught Cayton; a son: John Shannon Cayton of Clarksburg; two sisters, Barbara Devericks of Pennsboro and Betty Walls of Ohio; a sister-in-law, Eileen Cayton of Ohio; and several brothers-in-law, additional sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by three brothers, Ashby Lewis Cayton, Andy Cayton and Delmus Paul Cayton, who died in childhood, and a sister Wazelyne Robinson.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hutson Funeral Home, 3171 Husky Highway, Farmington, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with Reverend Ishmeal Graddy officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Farmington.
