Roy James Carroll, Sr.


Roy James Carroll Sr. Roy James Carroll, Sr. passed away on Dec. 25, 2018 at the age of 78 at his home on Bunner Ridge. He was born Sept. 22, 1940 in Vern, KY, son of the late John Cecil and Margaret E. Meadows Carroll and was raised along with his nine siblings in the Oak Ridge, TN area.
Roy received his diploma from Oliver Springs High School and was a 1970 graduate of the Nashville School of Preaching, where he studied after honorably serving his country in the U.S. Army. In 1981, he married Donna K. (Graves) Carroll of Fairmont, WV, who remained his loving and devoted wife for 37 years.
For much of his life, Roy was a dynamic minister for the Church of Christ, serving various congregations in West Virginia and other states. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved the water, but his greatest passion was for the Church and his greatest joy was his wife and family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Roy James ("RJ") Carroll, Jr.; his brothers Joe Carroll, of Debary, FL; Jack (Lenore) Carroll of Joliet, IL; William (Sandy) Carroll of Wartburg, TN; and John (Pat) Carroll of Jefferson, GA; his sisters Wanda Abney of Vandalia, OH; Joyce Ann (Bob) Blackford of Channahon, IL; Jeannie (Billy) Piper of Ft. Myers, FL; and Katie Carroll of West Carrollton, OH; sister-in-law Judy Carroll of Joliet, IL; and also very special in-laws Ron (Janet) Graves, Jerry (Laura) Graves, and Brenda (Randy) Kline, all of Fairmont, WV; and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jewl Dean Carroll, brother Bob Carroll, sister-in-law Ann Carroll, and in-laws Walter and Betty Jean Graves, who he considered to be his very own family.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services starting at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home with Evangelist Earl P. "Steve" Stevens, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery with Full Military Honors conducted by the Marion County Council Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve from Camp Dawson.
