Rodney "Rod" L. Pitman, 70, of Kuhn's Run, loving husband, father, and grandfather with a huge heart and a quick laugh, passed away suddenly Thursday (March 1, 2018). Rod was born May 12, 1947 in Marion County, the son of Julian Pitman of Kilarm and the late Angelina "Nenie" Pitman.
Rod was a graduate of Farmington High School and Fairmont State College. Rod taught school at Musselman High School and later worked at Consol's Loveridge Mine retiring after 30 years of service. Rod was a member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God. He loved to farm, do woodworking, and spend time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his three beautiful grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sharon Davis Pitman; his three daughters, Krista (Calvin) Bryant of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Rebecca (Scott) Hamilton of Katy, and Angie Pitman of Kilarm; two granddaughters, Morgan and Shelby Hamilton and grandson, Graham Bryant.
He is also survived by his brothers, Julian "Dusty" (Darlene) Pitma of Kilarm, and Van (Kathleen) Pitman of Idamay; his mother-in-law, Agnes Davis of South Farmington; brother-in-law, David (Barbara) Davis of Oklahoma; and John (Donna) Davis of Fairmont.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the Calvary Temple of God on Swisher Hill where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor Tim Shuttlesworth officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
