Robert Larry Thorne, 96, formerly of 806 Lyman St., Gaffney, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2018) at Peachtree Centre-Gaffney, South Carolina.
He was born on Feb. 23, 1921 in Paw Paw, a son of the late Walter Larry Thorne and Pearl Floya Robinson Thorne. He was first married to the late Betty Josephine Ensminger Thorne and was the husband of Necia Lynn Barton Thorne.
Robert is also survived by his son, Robert Larry Thorne, Jr and his wife Lou of Land O' Lakes, Florida; two daughters, Janet Lee Davis of Gaffney, South Carolina and Sharon Ellen Harmon of Ravenna, Ohio; a brother, Daniel Thorne and his wife Diane of Temecula, California; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Robert was also preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Tucker, Zana Micahel and Datha Stickley; a brother, Thomas Thorne; and a son-in-law, David Graham Harmon.
Robert was the owner and operator of True Fit Machine Shop. He was of the Baptist faith. Robert was very musically inclined and played the guitar, organ and taught singing lessons.
The family will received friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Blakely Funeral Home in Gaffney, South Carolina. Interment services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, 806 Lyman Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
