Robert's Story

U.S. retired Master Sgt. Robert M. Spiker, 88, of Washington, Pennsylvania, passed away Dec. 19, 2016.
He was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Owings, the son of the late John and Thelma Spiker. 
He served 20 years in the U.S. Army from 1945-1965, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was very proud of his military career.
After retiring from the service, he worked as an insurance adjuster until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed bowling, watching Steeler football and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Fairmont, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania and Dale City, Virginia.
Bob found love twice in his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his first love, Anna E. Stibler Spiker, whom he married Feb. 7, 1953. Until her death in 1987, they had celebrated 34 years together. 
He is survived by Joyce Spiker, whom he married Sept. 14, 1996; his daughter, Anna Sue Cox (David); five grandchildren, Erica Basnett (Scott), Kristen Broadstock (Josh), Frank Spiker (Staci), Natalie Deane (Kit) and Anna E. Cox; seven great-grandchildren, Mason, Cadin, Alaina, Alyvia, Emalee, Conner and Nick; two brothers, James R. Spiker (Irene) of Virginia, Gilbert Spiker of Florida; a sister, Vivian Roberts of Fairmont; and five stepsons. 
In addition to his first wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Robert M. Spiker Jr. and James F. Spiker Sr.; grandson, Stephen Tucker; brothers, William Spiker, Thomas Spiker, Connie Spiker; and sisters, Betty Wilson and Norma Jean Keener.
The burial of his cremains will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fairmont at 11 a.m. Jan. 25 with full military honors. A memorial will follow at LIFE United Methodist Church, 1564 Mary Lou Retton Drive, Fairmont, with Pastor Michael Delligatti officiating.
