Robert Hale Martin

Events

Robert Hale Martin left his earthly body on July 18, 2019 at the age of 85. He was born in Fairmont on March 4, 1934 to the late Gilbert A. and Lenore Hale Martin. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille Dabato Martin.
While on this earth, Bob was a very busy man. Along with his wife Lucille, he created and operated many successful businesses. Many will remember the smile on his face at Valley Worlds of Fun as he watched more than one generation of young employees and customers enjoy the many activities he provided. He worshipped the Lord with the Christian family at the Oakwood Road Church of Christ in Fairmont. He spent his life striving to follow Christ's example and was most humbled to serve as both an Elder and a Deacon for much of his time here.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his sons: Bruce (Stacia) Martin, Brian (Susan) Martin, and Brent Martin, his grandchildren: Rob (Brianna) Martin, Logan (Michaela)Martin, Kara (Scott) Chisler, Tyler (Samantha) Martin, and Jordan (Gina) Martin, as well as his great grandchildren: Elia Martin, Krue Martin, Griffin Martin, Stone Martin, Barrett Martin, and Shelby Chisler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Dr. Gilbert Martin, Jr.
The family would especially like to thank Joanne Spooner for her help and support with making him comfortable. In addition, they request that those wishing to honor his memory do so by making a donation to the Pleasant Acres Christian Home, 41 Pleasant Acres Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554, the Ohio Valley University, #1 Campus View Drive, Vienna, WV 26105, or another worthy cause of their choice.
Friends and family may visit at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554, Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 1PM until 4PM and 6PM until 9PM. The funeral service will be held in the Oakwood Road Church of Christ, 1 Oakwood Road, Fairmont, WV on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 11AM with Evangelist Michael Reese officiating. First off I want give my deepest sympathy to the Martin family! Mr. Marin was such amazing amazing man and boss. My first job as a youth was at Valley worlds of fun! I’ll forever grateful for the memories and experiences and the people I’ve met there many years ago. I have so many fond memories of bob he was always cracking jokes or just making you feel comfortable like you are part of the family. He brought such a fun and safe place for the community to gather at VWOF. I am lucky to have been part of his vision. He will be deeply missed and from all of us former employees we want to send our deepest sympathies to you all!

It is with much sadness that I learn that Bobby has passed. We have been friends since right after the War as I helped him wrap and sell Christmas trees. That would be around 70 years ago. I maintained a relationship with him and Lucille all of this time by visiting when home on high school and college reunions. I could always rely upon them to have a good time while visiting. Bob gave me great advice when I joined the USAF as he has just returned from active duty.

In times of this sort of sadness I have been calmed and grateful when gazing into a star-flecked sky knowing that the brightest star shinning will be Bob, looking down, every day of every year, forever.

Bob was one of t
...he nicest humans that I have known with never a bad word for anyone. Sue and I wish the family the best of life as they deserve such. It truly is a sadness that will linger for some time, as he was my friend who lived in the big white house down the road from us as we were growing up. He will rest in peace as he lived in peace, with all.

Sincerely, and with the deepest sympathy,
Susan & Richard L. Spencer

Our deepest sympathy goes to Bob's family, especially our friend Lucille. We enjoyed our visits to WV and our time together at the IAPPA conventions and our shared interests in the amusement industry. Please know that we had the upmost respect for Bob and although we did not get to be a large part of his life we certainly treasure the time we did have.
