Orville Dale Naegele, 86, of Monumental, passed from this life Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2017) at the Fairmont Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Dillsboro, Indiana, on Dec. 1, 1931, a son of the late Charles William and Hazel Mae Hehe Naegele.
He retired from Fairmont State University as an Associate Professor of Physical Sciences with 34 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in combat in the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and had a unique sense of humor. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bird watching, cooking, reading, and working crossword puzzles.
Mr. Naegele is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rose Wilson Naegele; three daughters and one son-in-law, Mary (Wade) Hinkle of Annandale, Virginia, Willa Vealey of Morgantown, and Paula Naegele of Chestertown, Maryland; one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest (Bernadette) Naegele of Middletown, Maryland; one brother and sister-in-law, John (Evelyn) Naegele of Batesville, Indiana; one sister, Mary Cheshire of Pompano Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren, Willa Rose Naegele, Megan Vealey, Leah Naegele, Casey Anne Vealey, Madeline Blouch, Joe (Chelsea) Naegele, and Lucas Vealey; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Naegele.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Margie Naegele and Lloyd and Peggy Naegele; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Verna and Warren Craven and William Cheshire.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Frey Home For Funerals (Historic Chapel), 320 Madison St., Fairmont. His service will be at 1:30 p.m. with his daughter, Mary Hinkle, officiating. Interment will be at noon on Wednesday in the WV National Cemetery at with his procession leaving the funeral home at 11:15 a.m.
Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Grafton Honor Guard.
