Merelyn was raised and nurtured in a family of loving parents in Greenville, MS who expressed the strong support of their children becoming passionate individuals, which led to Merelyn's love of reading and writing. During her high school years, she was a writer for the school yearbook and on the basketball team. She married Nick Demus early in her adult life to whom she was a wonderful wife and caring companion. They moved to Worthington, WV to raise and enjoy all the aspects of their eventually large family. She was a phenomenal cook and was usually cooking for many family members. During the early years of her children's lives at their elementary school, she enjoyed cooking with the other mothers at lunch for the students at Saint Peter and Paul School in Monongah. In 2001, an addition was built onto their home in order to house her children and grandchildren during Sunday meals and holidays. Merelyn even purchased a dining room table that would seat 20 people to bring the family together in harmony.
Merelyn was a faithful wife, devoted mother, talented homemaker and wonderful friend. She loved her children and was very proud of them and received great joy in talking to each of them daily. She also loved to have her husband, Nick, drive her around to different places in West Virginia on Sunday afternoons.
