Mary Frances Stevens, 90, of Daytona Beach, Florida, formerly of Enterprise, passed away on Tuesday (Aug. 23, 2016).
She was born in Wyatt, Jan. 15, 1926, a daughter of the late Earl and Olga Martin Jones.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandra McComas of Daytona Beach, Florida; one grandson, Steve McComas of Daytona Beach; one step-granddaughter, Frances Phillips and her husband Mike of Ormond Beach, Florida; one step-great-granddaughter, Mickie Greenhalgh and her husband Kyle of Ormond Beach; three nephews, Edward Glover and his wife Terry of New Martinsville, Dan Glover and his wife Sue of Bridgeport, Adam Michna of Monongah; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bill McComas; and her sister, Kathleen Glover.
Mary was a graduate of Mannington High School and Fairmont State College and attended West Virginia University. She was a member of the county, state and National Education Association. She was also a past member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a national teachers honorary society. She taught in the Marion County School system for 24 years, both at Hess Elementary School and Monongah Elementary School from which she retired in 1988.
She was a member of the Enterprise United Methodist Church and attended the Cross Roads Baptist Church in Daytona, Florida. Mary loved to travel and was a member of the West Virginia Club in Florida. She dearly loved every one of her students that she taught throughout the years.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, with Pastor Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
