Mary Helen Bartrug, 89, of Fairmont, Winfield Community, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2018). She was born Feb. 25, 1928 in Fairmont, the daughter of the late Arlus and Blanche Fleming of Hopewell Community.
She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. Early in her career, she was employed as an office clerk for Attorney Clay Amos, became a full-time homemaker, and then worked part-time as an office clerk for Garvin's Dairy. She was a long-time member of the Winfield United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for family gatherings and time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, David and wife Elaine of Fairmont and Duane and wife Becky of Shinnston; grandchildren, Matthew and Jared Bartrug, Tabitha and husband David Hamrick, Jeremy and wife Jenna Bartrug; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Caleb, and Owen Bartrug; sister, Thelma Brock of Hopewell; niece Sandra and husband Tom Stewart; sister-in-law, Juanita Hamilton; nephew, Johnnie Hamilton; and sister-in-law, Joyce Fleming.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Donald Bartrug; brother, Marvin Fleming; and brother-in-laws, Arthur Brock and Charles Hamilton; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Bartrug.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Saturday and noon-2 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Stephanie Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
